The main novelty in the ABTA 2014 conference agenda is the inclusion of panel sessions devoted exclusively to a discussion of advertising. The debates will cover such important themes as the impact of the new scenario for the industry on advertising and advertisers, how to assure proportionality of channel audience shares, and the space that can be occupied by programmers and channels in the new context.
Professionals from leading players such as Turner, Globosat, Discovery Networks and Abap have been invited to speak on these topics. In addition to a discussion of the themes, success cases will be presented featuring ad agencies with experience in pay-TV advertising and their use of the arsenal offered by pay-TV channels.
As a major new attraction of the 2014 edition, Lucas Mendes and Ricardo Amorim, the presenters of the Brazilian TV program “Manhattan Connection”, will interview conference attendees in a live talk show.
The interviews will be in three blocks and will address various topics of relevance to the pay-TV industry. The professionals interviewed belong to some of the major players in the industry, including Globosat, Claro, Net Serviços and Grupo Mídia.
ESPN, Intel, Media Hub and Conax are among the confirmed exhibitors at the forthcoming edition of ABTA. During the three days of the expo they will showcase new products and services, as well as future projects. Intel promises to present its new technology in the area of processors, such as the world’s first “conflict-free” microprocessors.
Media Hub will use the exhibition space to publicize its new partnership with Mauricio de Souza Produções, which will deliver new offerings to its customers, as well as other news relating to its products and services.
ABTA is the Portuguese-language acronym for the Brazilian Pay TV/Telecom Association. It was founded in 1989 to represent distributors, programmers and suppliers dedicated to conditional-access communications services. Its mission is to defend the industry’s interests, foster its development and represent its members in relations with the regulatory authorities.
Since 2006 the number of pay-TV subscribers in Brazil has risen 23.4% per year on average, with growth reaching close to 30% per year between 2010 and 2012. Last year, despite very low GDP growth of only about 2%, the pay-TV market expanded no less than 11.31% and the subscriber base reached 18 million homes.
Considering an average of 3.2 people per home (according to IBGE), pay-TV services are delivered to approximately 57.66 million Brazilians. This corresponds to a pay-TV penetration rate of 28.42 out of every 100 homes in the country.
Among pay-TV transmission technologies, the satellite or direct-to-home (DTH) system has a market share of about 62%. The remaining 38% access the service via cable.
